Frequently Asked Questions
hOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?
Appointments can be booked by filling out our inquiry form or contacting the studio directly. A non-refundable retainer is required to secure your spot, which is applied toward the final cost of your tattoo.
How much does a tattoo cost?
Pricing depends on the artist, size, style, placement, and detail of your design. Our artists work at different rates, and some offer half-day or full-day sessions. We’ll provide a quote once your design and session details are confirmed.
Do you accept walk-ins?
Yes, we do take walk-ins when we have availability.
To guarantee a time slot, we always recommend booking in advance.
What should I do to prepare for my tattoo session?
Get a good night’s sleep, eat a full meal beforehand, and stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol, drugs, or blood thinners for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area.
What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?
If you need to reschedule, please notify us at least 48 hours in advance. Retainers are non-refundable but can usually be transferred to a new date if proper notice is given. No-shows or last-minute cancellations may result in loss of the retainer.
What are the age requirements for getting tattooed?
You must be 18 years or older to get tattooed at our studio, with a valid government-issued photo ID. We do not tattoo minors, even with parental consent, as this is against South Carolina state regulations and our studio policy.
Can I use numbing cream before my tattoo?
We do not allow the use of numbing creams or gels unless it has been discussed with your artist beforehand and approved. Using numbing products without approval can affect the skin, make tattooing more difficult, and impact how the ink heals.
⚠️ Please note: If numbing cream is used without prior approval, your retainer will be forfeited and your appointment may be canceled.
What is your retainer/deposit policy?
We require a non-refundable retainer to book all tattoo appointments. The retainer holds your spot in the artist’s schedule and is applied toward the final cost of your tattoo (in most cases, it is applied to the last session of your project).
If you cancel, no-show, or fail to follow studio policies (such as using unapproved numbing cream), the retainer is forfeited. Reschedules may be allowed if you provide at least 48 hours’ notice, and the retainer can be transferred to a new date at the artist’s discretion.
How do I take care of my new tattoo?
Always follow the aftercare instructions given by your artist at the end of your session. Each tattoo may require slightly different care depending on placement, size, and style, so it’s important to follow their specific guidance for the best healing and long-term results.
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes! We offer gift cards that can be used toward tattoos at both Copper Finch Tattoo and 36 South Tattoo. Gift cards are redeemable for up to 1 year from the date of purchase and must be presented at the time of your appointment. They are super convenient and can be instantly downloaded, making them a perfect gift for any occasion.
Do you accept tips and how can I leave one?
Yes! Tips are always appreciated and go directly to your artist. You can tip in cash, through the checkout system, or via the artist’s preferred payment app (if applicable).
Does getting a tattoo hurt?
Pain levels vary depending on placement, size, and individual tolerance. Most clients describe the pain as manageable. Our artists work efficiently to minimize discomfort and ensure you’re as comfortable as possible during the process.
How should I dress for my tattoo appointment?
Wear clean, comfortable clothing that gives your artist easy access to the area being tattooed. Dark colors are best since ink may stain. If you’re getting a larger piece, consider bringing layers so you can stay comfortable during a long session.
